What matters most to me…

My three areas of focus:

Safety

Our children, parents, and teachers should feel safe in our schools.

Nothing is more important than keeping our children and educators safe. Unfortunately, just over half of all Tennessee public schools have a School Resource Officer (SRO). We are fortunate here in Bradley County to have SROs in every school. Bradley County Schools and the Bradley County Sheriff’s office have worked hard to assess our schools and identify areas of risk. While I believe we are doing a good job keeping our children and educators safe, as a School Board Member and as a grandmother, it will always be my top priority to find ways to improve school security.

Opportunity

Every child should have an opportunity to become successful in life.

We all want our children and grandchildren to have opportunities greater than our own. Our future generations’ career readiness is key to our community’s growth and success. We must ensure students in Bradley County have educational opportunities that put them on the path to success in life. I believe every student possesses unique skills and talents. Our schools should nurture those talents and prepare students for college and the workforce. As a School Board Member, I will continue to push for more opportunities for students whether it is in the classroom, in the community, or by providing more training for those students gifted in vocational areas.

Local Control

Our community, educators, and local leaders best understand our educational needs.

Serving as a teacher, principal, administrator under 6 Directors of Schools, and as a school board member has given me the opportunity to evaluate our school system from many different perspectives. I believe our community should make decisions that affect our schools and our children.  Parents and teachers should have a say in the curriculum being used to educate our students. As a school board member, I will always promote collaboration with the county commission, the sheriff’s office, and other community agencies to help facilitate local decision making.
